The GumBranch Volunteer Fire Department consists of one station on the western edge of Liberty County, Georgia. It is one of 8 fire stations that protect the citizens of Liberty County. It consists of a group of highly dedicated volunteers, both active and inactive. We are located in GumBranch, Georgia, approximately 35 miles west of Savannah. Our area consists of about 69 square miles of mostly rural area. We operate two (2) engines, one (1) tanker and one (1) Service/Rescue truck. The department consists of around 20 active members and a few inactive members. We pride ourselves in our exceptional community relations and support to surrounding departments. Since the area is covered by dry hydrants, pumping and shuttling water is our primary means of getting water to any fire scene. If a hydrant is not nearby, any of the local ponds or streams are used for drafting. The station shares a building with the city on a tract of land donated by a community member. The building is dedicated to this devoted community member and we appreciate his generosity. A new building will begin construction soon on the western end of our response area. We hope to house two of our trucks that currently are kept outdoors in this new station. It will include a fire training area to help train our members. Proof that our community relations are great is shown by the fact that community members are willing to donate time, money, or materials to help with the building of this new station. We also regularly have members that attend funerals, visit community members in the hospital, help out when family members are sick, or donate household goods and clothing when a family is displaced after a fire. If you would like to become a member of a department like this, please check out the Membership Page to download a copy of our application. |
